Got DVDs?
Have your kids grown up? Are you almost over your Will Smith phase? Maybe its time to edit your DVD collection! The Fishers Island Library is trying to expand its current DVD holdings. As DVDs are a very popular item, your donations will go a long way in helping us increase our offerings. Simply leave your gently used DVDs on the porch and we will promise them a good home. Feel free to come by and visit them whenever you want. Thank you in advance!
Adult Book Discussions
FEBRUARY UPDATE:
Join us as we discuss the much-lauded novel "The Paris Wife", which depicts the lives of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife (and by all accounts, his greatest love) Hadley during their years in Paris. 7 pm, Wednesday, February 8
The Fishers Island Library has been hosting monthly Adult Book Discussions on a regular basis since 1996. All reading members of our island community are welcome to attend. Even if you haven't read the book being discussed, it is likely that you'll find a way to contribute to the discussion.
Children’s Story Hour
Join us Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:15 at the library for a program geared to children ages 3-5.
Sometimes we read a story, sometimes someone tells us a story or sometimes we share an interactive hour of fun led by a parent, sibling or young adult.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible sitter or adult.
The Peter Brinckerhoff Nautical Lecture Series
To honor Peter’s many years as President of the Library Board and his continued service and as a tribute to his love of sailing, the library initiated The Peter Brinckerhoff Nautical Lecture Series in 2010.
Join us at a date to be determined as the Ocean Classroom Foundation brings to life its innovative high seas education program.
The Young Adventurers Series
Many young islanders have traveled far and others have found adventure close to home.
If you have a journey to share, we encourage you to become part of our Young Adventurers Series. If you know of someone who might be appropriate for this series, we want to hear about that too.
This program is designed for teenagers and young adults and usually relies on a mixed media format but anyone who would like to share his or her adventure can feel free to contact us.
Puzzles
For many years the library has had jigsaw puzzles set up in the Martha Ferguson Memorial Reading room. It's the perfect activity for young and old. Also a nice reason to escape the house on a rainy day!
So stop on in, put in a couple of pieces and meet new people!
This Year's Theme: Fish!
For many years, the library has relied on islanders and their friends to share their stories of adventure, creativity and accomplishment as the basis for our programs and events. This year we are designing many of our special events around a specific theme. For 2011, our topic is "Fish" and "The Sea". We hope this approach will provide more focus and fun for all. Please let us know your suggestions. And if you, a family member or a friend has a story or expertise to share, the library would love to hear about it.
